Songs of the Week - Ellie Goulding

This little madam has been popping up all over the place lately and rightly so. I am quiet favorable to the lady vocalists especially if they are on the touch of the whiny side so it's little wonder that I'm loving on Ellie. British born same year as me (1986) and looks like I'm not the only one loving on her as she has just won Critics' Choice prize for the 2010 Brit Awards. Numerous covers and a few single and remixes to die for (Baby Monsters remix blows my mind) I can say I'm excited for her album which is being launched early next year.

So here we are, enjoy (click DivShare to download)

General Ramblings - Daaaaddy, I want a pony

I never said I was ahead of the curve... I Blame Coco have been around for a little while but due to my dislike for her fathers music (Sting) I brushed her "upcoming kid to watch" status off before I even gave her a chance.

Anyway the reason I found this is cause I follow one of my favourite Swedes Robyn on Twitter and she was shouting out about this colab video. I have to admit it's not bad. Coco's deep man voice mixed with Robyn's really works in my opinion and it's got a good beat. Robyn makes this song and it begs the question if the only reason why Coco has a gig in the first place is cause of daddy...
I guess we'll find out when her next single hits but for now I'm "going to enjoy it."

A Quick Look at Awesome - Meredith Dittmar

Meredith Dittmar is a Polish artist that pushes the edge of the imagination with her beautifully constructed artworks made out of pieces are polyurathane foam, fiberglass resin & polymer clay. Though her biography describes it best with
"Dittmars human-animal-plant-energy amalgams contain threads of common elements and colors to express deep levels of union across themes of biology, technology, and consciousness."

Her work is a marvel to the eye and to put it lightly, just makes my heart happy...
Thanks to my Friend-D for sending me the link

General Ramblings - New Young Pony Club "Lost A Girl"

This is the new track form the upcoming album called "Optimist"... It's been a while since these guys have done something. I have to admit that I do prefer Tahita's new hair, when I caught them June last year in a field somewhere in England she sported the nastiest perm... shame.

Anyway here it is,

It's fun, though I have to say this is no where near "The Bomb", "The Get Go" or the infamous "Ice Cream."
Then again very few things are...

"Fantastic flavor fancies -
Sick like Syd and Nancy -
Wicked as a joyride jaunt"

General Ramblings - Final Fantasy VIII and Pink Hair

So for those who don't know... (if anyone is even reading this) I'm a bit of a geek... just a tad. And I would be lying if I said I wasn't excited about the new Final Fantasy coming out on the 9th of March. The small Asians at Square Soft have been kicking the Americans ass in CG since time began, my Final Fantasy X (that came out in 2002) graphics still outstrips most of my PS3 games and that's 8 years ago... anyway so myself and my fav frenchie can't wait to be battling for the controller in March.

Oh and another reason I posted this is cause I now have the same hair colour as the leading lady... yes I am baby candyfloss pink... I can't say no to my hairdresser... oh well, Christmas hair! Yay!

Retro Song of the Week - Belinda Carlisle "(We Want) The Same Thing"

I heard this song on the radio the other day and it brought back a lot of memories of my youth dancing around in my socks. I don't know why but there is a lot more weight to songs from those days... but another reason for me to put it up is probably cause it resonates with a conversation I had with someone... as long as there's a river to swim in....

"We dream the same dream
We want the same thing ...ooh...
For now, for love, forever, amen"

A Quick Look at Awesome - Humunculus

Great animation done by a group called Humble. It gives a great reminder of vanitas and the beautiful decay of the world... Memento Mori vibes. According to the makers themselves
"Homunculus is a dark and twisted fable of spontaneous generation and untrammeled id. Taking its title from the Latin word for Little Human"
Great usage of real life time lapse footage and little cute, creepy maya creatures.
Enjoy... with an empty-ish stomach.

Retro Song of the Week - M83 "We Own the Sky"

This shoe gazing french band with there extensive use of reverb effects and spoken softly lyrics have been haunting me lately after I picked up last months MOJO mag cd. With all the good feelings of the 80's but still enough of the present not to feel stale. This song is iconic and the build at the end speaks to my soul.

"Soft soft or cruel
Can't we change our minds?
We kill what we build
Because we own the sky"

Songs of the Week - The Shoes ft Primary 1 "People Moving Out" & Liars "Scissor"

So driving in my car today listening to various mixes I made over the last few weeks I stumbled over this song again. It's a great feel good song and perfect for a Friday "my-bosses-are-all-going-on-leave-today" song

Check it out - click divshare if you want to downlaod

Also on the cards this week has to be the new Liars single... BFF's with Yeah Yeah Yeahs these boys mix beautiful haunting vocals with often hard musical undertones that draws you in whether you like it or not.
